The aim of the article is to show the relationship between prudence and justice of Leonardo Polo’s philosophy, which are essential virtues of human growth. Polo takes the Aristotelian concept of prudence and accepts the definition of Thomas Aquinas. One of the Polo’s contributions is that prudence is related to personal freedom. In addition, guidelines are proposed to educate prudence and justice in relation to the parts that make up these virtues. Likewise, vices contrary to prudence are pointed out. Polo concludes that no one can be fair without being prudent.

The main objective of education, as it is maintained nowadays, is the achievement of a series of competences. Although it is possible to think about of social, civic or ethical competences, the central idea of this perspective is that education must serve first of all for the performance of a profession, which will define the social success of students. The main objective of this article is to philosophically question the validity of this objective. We argue that the acquisition of competences must be based on and subordinated to the acquisition of virtues. This response refers to the thinking of Leonardo Polo and allows an understanding of education based on its cultivation.

(Daniel H.)
This paper aims to develop the idea of space and time as objects of the imagination in Leonardo Polo’s thought. The treatment of imagination space is appropriate in a study of Polo’s legal philosophy since he maintains that it is the “place” where the technical is developed. Thus, all human arts, among which the ars iuris would occupy a prominent place, would have their foundation in the imagination space. Roman jurists understood ius as ars boni et aequi, which would indicate that jurisprudence since ancient times was considered an art or technique.

This article analyses the notion of nostalgia for the future in order to understand its meaning in the context of transhumanist philosophy and the philosophy of Leonardo Polo. The representatives of transhumanism have been chosen as those who historically are its intellectual fathers: Julian Huxley and Fereidoun M. Esfandiary, who later changed his name to FM-2030. The aim of the article is to analyse the two philosophies in order to deepen the desire for transcendence that each develops and to see to what extent a dialogue between the two is possible.

Philosophy can clarify some human problems, which often darken the mysteries of Christian faith. In this piece of research, which is the first of a series of papers on this topic, the notion of giving is introduced and studied with the aid of a well-known Augustinian text about the Divine grace. After comparing it with other texts of Semipelagian authors, the paper proposes to understand the grace doctrine according to a logic of gift or donation, rejecting its causal interpretation – because if the grace activity is understood causally, freedom is impossible, and therefore merit. However, if the grace’s activity is conceived according to the activity of giving, then freedom is required – which makes room for merit or demerit. Neither Pelagians nor Semipelagians understood this. But St. Augustine discovered that grace is a donation, by which our merits are the joint outcome of God’s gifts and our collaboration with them.

Bienes, normas y virtudes en ética empresarial
(Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Navarra, 2020) Melé, D. (Domènec)
Proposals for the foundation of business ethics are abundant and their discernment is often complex. Here the most relevant proposals are reviewed by contrasting them with the presented by Polo, who understands ethics in statu nascente, while considering it as a guide for freedom leading to the development of the human essence. This leads us to a systemic unit of ethics in which three interrelated aspects or dimensions concur: goods, norms and virtues. After discussing the current situation, the article concludes by advocating to the foundation of business ethics, considering ethics, in its integrity of goods, moral norms, and virtues and as a guide for human excellence in the company, and not simply to give a normative base to the market and the company.
