Abstract

Albert the Great establishes a tripartite division for philosophy, in which “real philosophy” is comprised of physics, mathematics and metaphysics, organized secundum ordinem doctrinae. Metaphysics constitutes the most sublime knowledge, and is called scientia divina. It articulates with theology in the manner of a grading of different levels of intelligibility, and which reveals the dialectic problem between faith and reason.
