Estrategias para mejorar el afrontamiento de las enfermeras ante el fallecimiento de un paciente paliativo

Abstract

Introducción: La muerte de un paciente en Cuidados Paliativos es difícil, la perdida genera sentimientos de tristeza y dolor. Sin embargo, las enfermeras encuentran dificultades para afrontarlo. En este estudio se recalcan las diferentes estrategias de afrontamiento usadas por las enfermeras para gestionar esta situación y poder fortalecerse para ofrecer cuidado al final de la vida. Objetivo: Conocer las estrategias de afrontamiento utilizadas por las enfermeras frente a la muerte de un paciente paliativo. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica en las bases de datos PubMed, Cinahl y PsycInfo durante los meses de octubre a noviembre de 2022. Se incluyeron veintiún artículos cuyo análisis e interpretación se realizó temáticamente. Resultados: De los artículos seleccionados se identificaron dos tipos de intervenciones: basadas en el problema y basadas en las emociones. Estas a su vez han sido subdivididas en estrategias intrínsecas y extrínsecas. Conclusiones: Se ha apreciado como las intervenciones mejoran el afrontamiento de las enfermeras ayudándoles de esta forma a lidiar con el fallecimiento del paciente paliativo. Sin embargo, es conveniente seguir investigando para poder instaurarlas en la práctica clínica.

Title: Strategies to enhance nurses coping with palliative patient death. Introduction: The death of a patient in Palliative Care is difficult, the loss provokes feelings of sadness and grief. However, nurses find it difficult to cope with it. This study highlights the different coping strategies used by nurses to manage this situation and to strengthen themselves to provide care at the end of life. Objective: Explore the coping strategies used by nurses in dealing with palliative patient death. Methodology: A literature review was carried out in PubMed, Cinahl and PsycInfo databases during the months of October to November 2022. The twenty-one articles which were found were analyzed thematically. Results: Through the analysis of the selected articles, two types of interventions were identified: problem-based and emotion-based. These in turn, have been categorized into intrinsic and extrinsic strategies.Conclusion: Interventions have been shown to improve nurses’ coping, helping them to deal with the death of the palliative patient. However, it is important to continue research in order to implement them in clinical practice.
