The «Estrecho Dudoso» is the Nicaraguan territory that may once have been converted into thefirst transatlantic strait in Latín America. Historical changes caused the project to be developed in Panamá and, since then, this unfulfilled dream has been converted into the symbol for all the historical and political frustrations ofthe small Central American country. This theme is present in the poetry of Ángel Martínez Baigorri (Río hasta el fin) and in Ernesto Cardenal's El Estrecho Dudoso. In the first case, the Nicaraguan national epic is transformed into a personal epic of a searchfor God, not in an epic poem. On the contrary, Ernesto Cardenal transforms history into a revolutionary prophesy and a hidden political saga, creating a truly epic poem. | es_ES |
