¿Turista conceptista? La irrealidad de la realidad en Quevedo

Abstract

Partiendo de un breve análisis de la presencia de Italia en la obra de Quevedo —en el cual se examina la noción de que lo que parece interesarle no es, en absoluto, la vida y costumbres de los italianos ni el paisaje o las ciudades italianas—, se plantea la cuestión de la representación de la realidad cotidiana en el corpus quevediano. Contrastando con los escritos quevedianos los de otros autores de la época (en especial Góngora, Cervantes, Contreras y Duque de Estrada), se llega a la conclusión de que Quevedo elude incluso en su novela picaresca representar el mundo material, sin más (permitiéndose hacerlo de vez en cuando únicamente en sus cartas a amigos íntimos), y se especula sobre la posibilidad de que su visión conceptista de la realidad sea lo que le lleva a crear irrealidades o surrealidades. Beginning with a brief analysis of the presence of Italy in Quevedo’s works —in which the notion is examined that what appears to interest him is not, in any way, the life and customs of the Italians or the landscape or cities of Italy— the question of the representation of everyday reality in Quevedo’s corpus is raised. Contrasting with his writings those of other authors of the period (notably Gongora, Cervantes, Contreras and Duque de Estrada), this study concludes that Quevedo avoids representing the material world for its own sake even in his picaresque novel, while allowing himself to do so now and again only in his letters to intimate friends. Finally, this essay speculates on the possibility that it is his conceptista vision of reality that induces him to create unrealities or surrealities.
