La formación del carácter en los indígenas mexicanos. Continuidades, rupturas y reivindicaciones

Abstract

Este artículo busca resaltar, a partir de la perspectiva filosófica de la educación, los ideales educativos de la tradición indígena mexicana, mostrando cómo ha perdurado su énfasis en la formación del carácter a través de discursos y tecnologías mnemotécnicas especiales, con el objetivo de evidenciar que el ideal educativo de formar para la plenitud atiende a la misma naturaleza humana. Es así que, tanto la idea antigua de "rostro corazón" de los antiguos mexicanos, conservada durante el periodo colonial, como la noción vigente de "vida buena" de los tseltales de Chiapas, conceptúan la integridad propia de la educación del carácter y pueden ser coincidentes con los ideales clásicos de los griegos, que conocemos gracias a las aportaciones de Platón y Aristóteles, en defensa del saber práctico prudencial y la vida de virtud.

From the philosophical perspective of education, this article aims to stress the educational ideals of the Mexican indigenous tradition, showing how its emphasis on character education has persisted in speeches and special mnemonic technologies, and to show that the educational ideals of training for fulfi llment are part of human nature itself. Thus, both the ancient idea of the "heart face" of the ancient Mexicans, preserved during the colonial period, and the current concept of the "good life" of the Tzeltal people of Chiapas, conceptualize the integrity of character education and may coincide with the Greek classic ideals which we know from the contributions of Plato and Aristotle in defense of prudential practical knowledge and the virtuous life.
