Reflexiones en torno al uso y función del arte efímero: las visitas reales a Pamplona en el tránsito del siglo XIX al XX

Abstract

Este trabajo aborda el arte efímero generado por las visitas reales a Pamplona en la se-gunda mitad del siglo XIX y primeras décadas del XX, contextualizándolo en las coordenadas espaciotemporales en las que surge y a las que en absoluto resulta ajeno. Tras señalar las pautas generales a las que se acomoda el arte efímero pamplonés, se analizan aquellos ejemplos que nos permiten profundizar en su uso y función y extraer conclusiones válidas a distintos niveles, desde el meramente ornamental, hasta el simbólico e ideológico. A todo ello se sumarán cuestiones de naturaleza tipológica e iconográfica, así como aquellas relacionadas con el alquiler, venta y reutilización del arte efímero; y también tendrán cabida en nuestro estudio las voces críticas que, al despuntar el siglo XX, se alzaron en contra de la construcción de aparatos, cuestionando su validez estética y como ornato urbano. Con ello pretendemos contribuir al mejor conocimiento de esta manifestación artística que atravesó un nuevo período de esplendor en la España de la transición de los siglos XIX al XX

This paper analyzes the ephemeral art created on the occasion of royal visits to Pamplona in the second half of the 19th and early decades of the 20th century, contextualizing in the space-time coordinates in which it arises and that is foreign at all. Noting the general guidelines that will ac-commodate the ephemeral art in Pamplona, we look at those examples that allow us to deepen their use and function, and draw valid conclusions at different leves, from the purely ornamental, to the symbolic and ideological. To this is added typological and iconographic issues, as well as those related to the rental, sale and reuse of ephemeral art; and are also present in our study the critical voices that, at the beginning of the 20th century, rose against the construction of these temporary architectures, questioning their aesthetic qualilities for urban decoration. Our aim is to contribuye to better understanding of this artistic expresión that went through a period of extraordinary splen-dor in Spain in the transition from the 19th to the 20th century.
